Why a Patient Might Need a Dental Extraction:
-
If repairing a damaged tooth is not practical
-
In Preparation for orthodontic treatment
-
If the tooth is non-functional (mal positioned or impacted)
Dr. Shuken and Dr. Foltz will thoroughly examine the patient, including x-rays, prior to doing the surgical extraction. The procedure can be done in the oral surgery office with local anesthesia or IV sedation. IV sedation requires an empty stomach and a ride home. The patient may experience some soreness and swelling for a few days after the procedure. Many times a bone graft material may be placed in the extraction site to help bone healing for future dental implant placement.
